L. Reuteri and L. Gasseri Superfoods are all about bacterial counts!

L. Reuteri and L. Gasseri Superfoods are all about bacterial counts. They were conceived as a 'vehicle' for getting more beneficial bacteria into your microbiome.

We do this by fermenting L. Reuteri Superfood (or L. Gasseri Superfood) in dairy milk.

This causes the L. reuteri bacteria (or L. gasseri) to proliferate many times over until there are hundreds of billions of live bacteria in the jar. When you consume the resulting cultured dairy, you get tons of live strains in every spoonful.

Why dairy milk? Because dairy milk is easily fermentable, and yields a tasty, rich, tangy,  result that is affordable and easy to consume.

Depending on the milk you use, the result could also turn out as thick as sour cream or even cream cheese.

But it's not about the texture or the flavor, it's about bacterial counts.

Texture and flavor are important, and the result tastes great, but this product is not about that. It's about getting more L. Reuteri (or L. Gasseri) into your GI tract.

Customers who buy our L. Reuteri or L. Gasseri starters do so because they are specifically interested in increasing their L. Reuteri or L. Gasseri intake.

L. Reuteri and L. Gasseri superfoods are not yogurts, even though sometimes they may look and taste yogurt-like, depending on the milk you use.

L. Reuteri and L. Gasseri superfoods are made with completely different strains of bacteria than yogurt. These beneficial bacteria -- Lactobacillus Reuteri (or Lactobacillus Gasseri) -- impart significantly higher benefits and far higher probiotics* compared to currently-available dairy products in the market, that we know of.

L. Reuteri and L. Gasseri superfoods fermentation process is different from that of yogurt:

  • fermented for 36 hours
  • fermented at 100 F (lower temperature than yogurt)
  • require the addition of prebiotic fiber to the dairy.

During this long fermentation, the beneficial bacteria multiply every 3 hours. That's 12 multiplication cycles. The result is a superior cultured dairy with very high probiotic bacterial counts, far higher than store-bought yogurts or even homemade ones.*

  • A half-cup of dairy L. Reuteri Superfood made with Cutting Edge Cultures' L. Reuteri starter contains over 67.2 Billion live bacteria. (See our research here.) That's far more than any L. Reuteri supplement that we know of currently on the market (For comparison: the highest supplement has a count of only 5 Billion per capsule). It's also far higher than any store-bought- or homemade yogurts, which are typically cultured for only 4-8 hours (undergoing only one or two multiplication cycles, whereas L. Reuteri undergoes 12!).
  • A half-cup of cultured dairy L. Gasseri Superfood made with Cutting Edge Cultures' L. Gasseri starter contains about 306 Billion live bacteria. (See our research here.) That's far more than any L. Gasseri supplement that we know of currently on the market (For comparison, most L. Gasseri supplements that we know of currently on the market, have a count of 10-12 Billion per capsule.). It's also far higher than any store-bought- or homemade yogurts, which are typically cultured for only 4-8 hours (undergoing only one or two multiplication cycles, whereas L. Gasseri undergoes 12!).

What you see in the pictures are jars of dairy L. Reuteri Superfood. Both jars, including the one that had separated into solids and liquid, contain very high counts of L. reuteri. The separated jar contains the L. reuteri in both the liquid (whey) and the solid (curd) and therefore both should be consumed. Whey is often dubbed ‘liquid gold’. It's highly nutritious. Both liquid and solid are very flavorful and pleasantly tangy.

The same principle applies to L. Gasseri Superfood.

In terms of bacterial counts, the texture doesn't matter.

If you have no particular interest in L. Reuteri or L. Gasseri, we have an actual yogurt starter Yogurt Plus which will yield a rich and creamy probiotic yogurt.
