We made two batches of cultured superfood (one dairy, one non-dairy) with our LR Superfood starter, and sent them to be analyzed at the Europhins Microbiology Lab Madison.
Here is a summary of the results:
1. Analysis of our DAIRY superfood:
Superfood was made from: whole milk
Starter: Cutting Edge Cultures' LR Superfood starter
Live cells per 1 gram of superfood: 570 million
2. Analysis of our NON-DAIRY superfood:
Superfood was made from: coconut milk
Starter: a batch of dairy superfood that had been made with Cutting Edge Cultures' LR Superfood starter (#1 above)
Live cells per 1 gram of superfood: 450 million
What does this mean in practical terms?
It means that when you consume a half-cup serving (which contains about 118g) of L. Reuteri Superfood, the numbers above need to be multiplied by 118:
- A half-cup of dairy L. Reuteri Superfood contains just over 67.2 Billion live bacteria.
- A half-cup of non-dairy L. Reuteri Superfood contains just over 53.1 Billion live bacteria.
For comparison, the highest potency L. Reuteri supplement currently on the market that we know of, has a count of 5 Billion per capsule.
Please note:
While there are numerous general probiotic supplements available at very high concentrations, our analysis relates to the concentration of this one specific strain: Lactobacillus Reuteri.
Conclusion:
L. Reuteri Superfood made with Cutting Edge Cultures' LR Superfood starter packs at least ten times the punch of supplements. One cup of this cultured dairy would contain 134 Billion, the equivalent of many capsules! And it can be used to ferment several subsequent batches. The concentration of this specific strain, together with the ability to referment, make this product very good value compared to supplements (and it's delicious!).
