Replacing factory-made foods with your own ferments: The added bonus

Kefir Soda

Fermented foods play an important role in nurturing a healthy microbiome. Making these foods at home is a fantastic method to contribute to one's overall health and wellness.

And it comes with a bonus.

Your homemade ferment is probably replacing a store-bought ready-made version that is most likely not as healthy/fresh/nutritious as the one you've made.

By making your own ferments, not only will you be eating quality food, but at the same time you will NOT be consuming a lesser-quality product.

  • If you drink homemade Kefir Soda, you won't be drinking commercial soda pop, at least not in the same meal.
  • If you make pizza from homemade sourdough bread for supper, you won't need to zap an industrial pizza.
  • If you make ice cream from your homemade yogurt, you won't be eating factory ice cream for dessert.
  • If you add a forkful of homemade sauerkraut to your plate, it will replace industrial coleslaw.

If you aim to enjoy mindful eating as part of a healthy lifestyle, you may want to control what enters your food (and hence your body).

Opt for local, seasonal, clean, minimally-processed ingredients, with no additives, no mystery compounds, and no added sugars and the like. This is what real food is all about.

Convenience foods bought at the store, by contrast, are a done deal. You have no control over the ingredients that are in them, nor over their quality.

Keep fermenting your own food at home.

Swap poor-quality products for homemade fermented alternatives.

Look at this gorgeous ice cream! It's bursting with freshness and flavor. And it's probiotic!
