Looking for an easy intro to DIYing fermented foods?
Kefir might just be the thing you're looking for.
Kefir is a cultured dairy beverage, originating in the North Caucasus region of Eurasia.
While overall similar to yogurt, kefir is fizzier, tarter, yeastier, and more pourable than yogurt.
Kefir is a living food, abundant with live beneficial microorganisms. Read about its benefits.
Traditionally, kefir is made by adding kefir grains to milk, letting the milk culture, and then removing the grains and caring for them so that you can use them again to make future batches.
At Cutting Edge Cultures, we've simplified the process and freeze-dried the kefir grains into a powder that you stir into milk (no pre-heating required). You then leave the jar to culture for 24 hours on your counter.
It will not create grains.
To make a new batch, use some of your resulting kefir as your starter. You can repeat this several times.
With our Easy Kefir powdered starter, you get all the benefits of kefir grains, without the need to look after the grains.
Our Easy Kefir starter, as its name suggests, is really easy to use, involving hardly any work on your part aside from stirring the content of one sachet of powdered starter into dairy milk (cold from the fridge) and placing the jar on the counter for about 24 hours, to culture.
With our Easy Kefir:
- Prep time is 2 minutes
- Fermentation time is about 24 hours
- There are no grains to look after
- No cooking skills required
- No special equipment needed
- Once you've made a jar of kefir, you can use some it to make a new batch. You can repeat this several times over.
You will only need a glass jar with a fitting lid and a starter sachet like the one in the picture.
Over a period of 24 hours or so, the microorganisms in Easy Kefir will multiply and ferment the natural sugars in the milk.
Don't let your busy schedule get in the way. If what you're after is a healthy homemade easy ferment, just make kefir.
Kefir is great in smoothies, vinaigrettes, dips, fruit-and-dairy healthy bowls, or all by itself as a refreshing, healthy, cultured dairy beverage.
